Tracunhaém
Half a day is enough: visit the ceramic studios and the artisans' association, then move on to Lagoa do Carro or Recife. Not a base.
Tracunhaém, 63 km northwest of Recife, is Pernambuco's ceramic heart. Half the town works in clay. You come for the studios and the Saturday fair, not for beaches or nightlife. Most travellers stop for a few hours between Recife and Lagoa do Carro.
