Towson
Base in Towson for 1–2 nights only if you have a car or a reason (university, hospital, county business); otherwise sleep in Baltimore and day-trip up.
Towson is the seat of Baltimore County, an unincorporated sprawl of malls, campuses and offices about 20–25 minutes north of downtown Baltimore. It has one real sight (Hampton National Historic Site), a large shopping mall, a student bar strip on York Road and a handful of hotels. Almost nobody needs more than a night here, and most visitors are better off sleeping in Baltimore and coming up for an afternoon.

Get around
Towson sprawls and is built for cars: free parking at the mall and most hotels, and driving is the default. Without a car, MTA bus 8 runs the York Road corridor every 10–15 min most of the day, bus 48 is a faster limited-stop version to downtown Baltimore, and bus 11 covers Charles Street and Towsontown Blvd. The Light Rail does not reach Towson itself — you ride bus 8 north to Lutherville station to join it.
