Toutle
Skip Toutle as a destination. Use it only as a sleep-and-eat base for Mount St. Helens: one night, or drive straight to the visitor center.
Toutle is a tiny unincorporated community on WA-504, the Spirit Lake Highway, about 11 miles east of I-5. It has a campground, a diner-style grill and a state park. Nobody comes here for Toutle itself; they come because it is the closest place to sleep or eat before entering Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. The visitor center is another 30 minutes east.
