Toowoomba sits on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, 130 km west of Brisbane and about 90 minutes by road, and it is Australia's largest inland city after Canberra. The draw is the escarpment gardens and lookouts, the Carnival of Flowers in late September, and the Cobb+Co Museum. Sights are spread across the city and buses are thin, so a car changes the trip more than an extra day does.

Get around
A car is the convenient option: the city spreads over the Range and the sights sit in different suburbs. Local buses run about six routes, mostly hourly, with reduced Saturday service and no Sunday routes. Taxis are metered and cheaper than in capital cities. The A2 Warrego Highway motorway is tolled only if you pass under the New England Highway.
