Getting around in Tumon

Tumon is flat with kerb cuts and many accessible hotel rooms, but sand is soft and taxis rarely take wheelchairs.

Pavements:
Wide and level on the strip; crossings are far apart.
Getting around:
Ask your hotel for an accessible shuttle or a van; a hire car with a lift is possible (check).
Accommodation:
Many large hotels have accessible rooms; confirm with the hotel.
Toilets:
Accessible toilets in malls and larger hotels; check on the day.

Medicines and health on the ground

  • Travel insurance · before flying: US-level hospital bills and possible medical evacuation to Hawaii or Asia; check typhoon delay cover.
Heat and UV:
Shade, water and reef-safe sunscreen; avoid midday exertion.
Dengue:
Present in the region: use repellent, especially at dawn and dusk.
Reef cuts and urchins:
Wear reef shoes; clean cuts and see a clinic if they redden.
Water and food:
Tap water is treated; ask after a typhoon.
Medical care:
Guam Memorial Hospital in Tamuning and private clinics; bring insurance.

Ask your insurer

Age limits and prices differ by policy and the guides do not hold them, so put these to the insurer before you buy.

  • What is the oldest age the policy covers, at purchase and on the last day of the trip?
  • Does the price or the cover change after a certain age?
  • Are existing conditions covered, and what must be declared?
  • Does the cover include medical evacuation and trip interruption?

Not medical advice. This page does not know anyone’s health. Ask a doctor before the trip, and carry a list of medicines and conditions.
