Flight — operator cancelled (direct booking)

Where to act: Airline website or app → Manage booking / My trips → Refunds or Rebook. Use the same account email as the booking.

Steps in order

  1. Confirm cancellation on record

Open the PNR in the airline app. Status should show Cancelled by airline (not just a schedule change you ignored).

  2. Pick refund path

Choose refund to original form of payment if offered. If only a voucher appears, note the amount and expiry before accepting.

  3. Request written confirmation

Save the refund reference number and the promised timeline (often 7–20 business days to card).

  4. Watch the card

If nothing posts by the date given, use the follow-up template below before disputing with your bank.

Who to contact

  • App chat

Airline app → Help → Messaging (while logged in with {{ref}} visible)

    Screenshot the thread with timestamps.

  • Email

Refunds or customer relations address on your e-ticket receipt

Put the booking ref in the subject line.

  • Phone

Number on ticket; ask for Refunds desk

Phone script: Hi, my booking {{ref}} was cancelled by the airline on {{date}}. I need a refund to my original payment method, not a voucher. Can you confirm the refund amount {{amount}} and send email confirmation?

Booking {{ref}} — refund required, not voucher

Dear {{recipient}},

For booking {{ref}} cancelled by the airline ({{date}}), I was offered a travel credit only. I do not accept a voucher where a cash refund to original payment is available under my fare or applicable law.

  • Package or separate hotel on same trip → check /tools/cancel-deadlines for parallel bookings
