Treat Tokoname as a half-day pottery stop or a pre-flight night, not a base: 4–5 h for the Pottery Footpath, or 1 night before an early NGO departure.
Tokoname sits on the Chita Peninsula in Aichi, 30–50 min by Meitetsu from Nagoya, and it owns the land under Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO). It is one of Japan's six old kiln towns (rokkoyō) and the country's main maker of maneki-neko lucky cats. The walkable core is small: the Pottery Footpath, kiln remains, the Tokonyan cat and a cluster of ceramics shops. Most travellers pair it with the airport or with Nagoya rather than staying long.

Get around
Meitetsu airport line links Meitetsu Nagoya, Tokoname, Rinku Tokoname and the airport; Tokoname station is the downtown stop, Rinku Tokoname the mall and airport-side stop. A free shuttle bus loops the city and the airport, covering most sights. The Pottery Footpath is walkable from Tokoname station in about 10–15 min. Driving is easy; Rinku Interchange is the practical exit for the malls and downtown, not Tokoname Interchange.

- Pottery shops and kiln workshops keep short hours and close on irregular days: check before you build a day around one.

- A ¥200 per person per night accommodation tax applies in Tokoname from 2025, airport hotels included.
- If you rent from Budget at the airport, their office is in Tokoname and needs a phone call plus a free shuttle: check the pickup.
- Summer on the Chita coast is hot and humid; the beaches are plain and not a reason to come.
