How to get to Togo: airports, flights and border crossings

Use this as a first filter, then confirm routes and fares for your dates. Flight times are total elapsed time including one connection; nonstop service to Lomé is limited.

Fares move a lot by season. The dry months (November–March) are the busiest and most expensive; the wetter months (April–June, September–October) are usually cheaper.

1. Get the e-visa first. Togo runs an online e-visa; apply before you fly and print or save the approval. You also complete an online arrival form. Check both on the official portal, and see Togo visa and entry requirements for the current rules.

2. Pick your airport. Lomé–Tokoin (LFW) is the practical choice. It handles the international flights and sits close to the city, so a taxi to a Lomé hotel is short. Other airfields in Togo are domestic or seasonal; do not plan an international arrival through them.

3. Choose a connection. From Europe, Paris is the most common gateway; from West Africa, Accra and Abidjan are frequent. From North America and Australia, expect at least one long connection, often through Paris or Addis Ababa. Confirm the airline still flies the route before booking.

4. Book the onward leg. If you plan to continue to Ghana, Benin or Burkina Faso, decide whether to fly or cross by land. Land crossings are cheap but slow; flying out of Lomé is simpler if your schedule is tight.

5. Sort money and a SIM on arrival. Bring euros or US dollars to change, and see Togo currency and tipping and Togo SIM and eSIM before you land.

Land entry is possible from Ghana at Aflao, from Benin at Sanvee Condji, and from Burkina Faso in the north. Borders have set hours and can close early; arrive in daylight and check the current situation before you set out. Shared taxis and buses run these routes, but timings are unpredictable.

Sea entry is not a normal option for visitors. Lomé is a working port, not a cruise or ferry hub for travellers, so do not plan to arrive by sea unless a specific service is confirmed.

The north of Togo, including Kara and Koutammakou, is a separate leg. Check the latest advice before travelling there, and consider a driver rather than public transport.
