Tiradentes is one of the best-preserved colonial towns in Minas Gerais, with a population of about 7,000 and a compact old town you can cross on foot in 15 minutes. It works as a 2-night stop on a Minas colonial loop with Ouro Preto and São João del Rei, and it is a food town first: regional mineiro cooking, modern restaurants and a cachaça scene. Weekends, holidays and the August food festival fill the pousadas, so book ahead.
