Timișoara is Romania's fifth-largest city and the informal capital of the Banat, 10 km from its own airport and about 3 hours by road from Belgrade and Budapest. The historic core is compact and walkable: Victory Square, Union Square and Liberty Square sit within 15 minutes of each other, with the Bega river and its parks just south.
