Tijuana
Give Tijuana 1–2 nights, not a week: use it as a food-and-craft stop from San Diego, then push south to Valle de Guadalupe or Ensenada.
Tijuana sits directly against San Diego and is the busiest land border crossing in the world by some measures. Most visitors come for a day or a single night: Avenida Revolución and the craft-beer and food scene in Zona Río, with Playas for the coast. It is a large working city of about 2 million, not a resort, and the useful trip is short and specific.

Get around
Taxis and rideshare (Uber, DiDi) are the practical way around; agree the fare or use the app before you get in. Local buses are cheap but routes are poorly marked. Walking works inside Zona Centro and along Avenida Revolución.
