Give Ticonderoga one full day for Fort Ticonderoga plus one downtown stop, and sleep one night if you are driving the Adirondacks; skip it as a standalone trip.
Ticonderoga is a small Adirondack town on the LaChute River between Lake George and Lake Champlain, built around a restored 18th-century fort and a pencil-factory past. Almost everyone arrives by car on I-87. The fort alone fills a morning or afternoon, the village adds two or three hours, and the rest of the region is a drive away.

Get around
A car is effectively required: there is no local bus network and the fort, the village and the lake shore are 5–15 min apart by road. Fill the tank in town, because stations are sparse on the back roads. The Lake Champlain ferry links Route 74 with Shoreham, Vermont.
