Shinkansen with large bags

Bags over 160 cm (L+W+H) on the Tokaido/Sanyo/Kyushu Shinkansen need a reserved seat with the oversized-baggage area; over 250 cm is not allowed.

Rules by bag size

≤ 160 cm total: No reservation needed for the bag; overhead rack or at your feet.
160–250 cm total: Reserve a seat with the oversized-baggage area (or the space behind the last row).
> 250 cm total: Not allowed on board — forward it.

Boarded without the reservation: expect a fee and to be moved; forward the bag next time.

Luggage forwarding (takuhaibin) hotel-to-hotel, usually next day; the receiving property must accept it.
