Tegueste is a landlocked farming town of about 11,000 people at 545 m, ringed entirely by San Cristóbal de La Laguna and only 6 km on foot from Tenerife North airport. Its draw is small and specific: a 16th-century centre, two wineries, a Sunday market and a spring pilgrimage. Two to three hours covers the centre; a half day adds a winery. Sleep here only if you want quiet and a car.

Get around
On foot in the centre: the core and side streets are pedestrianised and take 10–15 min end to end. TITSA buses 050, 051, 052 and 057 link Tegueste with La Laguna, Bajamar, Punta del Hidalgo, Tejina and Tacoronte. For the wineries and the Agua de Dios ravine you want a car or taxi.
