Heroica Villa de Santiago de Teapa
Go for one night, or as a half-day stop from Villahermosa: the Coconá caves plus the two colonial churches fill a morning, not a trip.
Teapa is a small Pueblo Mágico in southern Tabasco, about 55 km and an hour south of Villahermosa on MEX-195. It is a low-key town of under 30,000 people built around two 17th- and 18th-century churches, a leafy zócalo and the Grutas de Coconá. Most travellers see it as a day trip or a single overnight between Villahermosa and the Sierra hills; two nights only make sense if you add the rivers and balnearios around Tapijulapa.

Get around
The centre is small enough to walk: zócalo, both churches and the main restaurants sit within about 10 minutes on foot. For the Grutas de Coconá and the balnearios you need a car, a taxi or a tour; local buses run along MEX-195 but are slow and infrequent. Autobuses TRT has a small station stop near downtown.
