Taukkyan
Half a day is enough: visit the War Cemetery, then continue to Bago or back to Yangon. Not a base.
Taukkyan is a small town on the Yangon–Pyay road, 40 km north of Yangon. Its single reason to stop is the Taukkyan War Cemetery, a Commonwealth War Graves site with over 6,000 graves and memorials to 27,000 Allied soldiers lost in Burma during WWII. The town itself has no other sights, so most travellers visit as a half-day stop en route to Bago or Pathein.
