Tarnowskie Góry is a small Silesian town 26 km from Katowice whose 16th-century silver and lead mine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mine and the Black Trout Adit are the reason to come; the market square, two churches and a handful of palaces fill the rest of a day. Most travellers visit as a day trip and sleep in Katowice.
