Tapalpa is a small highland town in Jalisco at about 2,000 m, built of white walls and red tile roofs, and the closest forest escape for Guadalajara. Two nights covers the plaza, the churches, Las Piedrotas and the Salto del Nogal waterfall, with time for grilled meat and a craft beer. It is a weekend town: Friday to Sunday it is busy and pricier, Monday to Thursday it is quiet and cheaper. Buses from Guadalajara take 2.5–3 h and cost about M$250 (2026 estimate).
