Tambacounda
One night as a stopover between Dakar and Niokolo-Koba or Casamance; not a destination on its own.
Tambacounda is the transport hub of southeastern Senegal, 400 km from Dakar, and the gateway to Niokolo-Koba National Park. The town itself has a market, a craft village and a historic railway station, but most travellers pass through for one night. The heat is intense, especially March–June, and tourism infrastructure is basic.
