Tabqa
الطبقة
Tabqa is a 1-night stop for the Euphrates Lake and Qal'at Ja'bar castle, not a destination on its own.
Tabqa (also known as al-Thawrah) sits on the southern shore of Lake Assad, Syria's largest reservoir. The town itself is a grid of mid-20th-century blocks built around the Tabqa Dam. Most travellers come for the medieval Qal'at Ja'bar castle on a peninsula in the lake, then move on toward Raqqa or Deir ez-Zor. The town has basic services, a few mosques and a dusty market. One night is enough.
