Tábor
Give Tábor one night, or a half-day stop between Prague and České Budějovice: the old town is 2–3 hours, the underground adds an hour.
Tábor is a hilltop Hussite town 100 km south of Prague, ringed by the Lužnice river and Jordán lake. The old town is compact and walkable in an afternoon, but the evening light on Žižka Square and an easy train link make one night the better buy. It works as a stop on the Prague–České Budějovice line rather than a destination in itself.
