Taber
Give Taber half a day, not a night, unless you come for Cornfest in late August: the corn stalk, the museum and a corn stand take about 3 hours.
Taber is a farming town of about 8,400 people on the Crowsnest Highway (Hwy 3), 50 km east of Lethbridge and 260 km southeast of Calgary. It calls itself the Corn Capital of Canada, and the sweet corn sold from roadside stands across Alberta in August is the reason to stop. Sights are few and close together: a 36-foot corn stalk statue, a small irrigation museum and a war memorial. Most travellers pass through on the way to Medicine Hat or the mountains, or use it as a cheap bed base for Lethbridge and Writing-on-Stone.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: the town is small but the campground and river valley are outside the centre. Downtown is flat and walkable in 10–15 minutes end to end. Local transit in Taber: check (no town bus service was confirmed). Hwy 3 runs west to Lethbridge and east to Medicine Hat; Hwy 36 runs north toward Brooks.
