Stony Point
Give Stony Point one full day for the battlefield and lighthouse, then sleep in Nyack or Bear Mountain: the town itself has almost no lodging.
Stony Point is a small Hudson River town in Rockland County, about 35 mi north of Manhattan, built around a 1779 battlefield and the oldest lighthouse on the Hudson. It works as a half-day to one-day stop on a Rockland County loop, not as a base: lodging is thin, the sights are outdoors and seasonal, and you need a car or a taxi from the nearest train station.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: Route 9W and the Palisades Parkway (exits 14 and 15) put the battlefield, the state parks and the river towns within 30 min of each other. Hudson Link buses run through Rockland County and across the Hudson to Tarrytown and White Plains, but service is sparse and does not reach the battlefield gate. Metro-North's Pascack Valley line stops at Spring Valley, Nanuet and Pearl River; taxis are available but call ahead, especially at Nanuet and Pearl River.
