Getting there

Almost all visitors arrive at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The Arlanda Express train reaches Central Station in about 20 minutes; slower commuter trains and airport coaches cost less and take longer. From Central Station, Gamla stan and Norrmalm are walkable, and Södermalm, Östermalm, Vasastan and Djurgården are a short metro, tram or bus ride away.

Within the city, the Tunnelbana (metro) is the workhorse, with trams to Djurgården and ferries from Nybroplan and Slussen. If you plan several days of sightseeing, compare a travel card with a city pass before buying both. For day trips, Uppsala is about 40 minutes by train from Central Station.
