Spiro
Half a day for the Spiro Mounds, then move on: the town itself has no other reason to stop.
Spiro is a small Oklahoma town whose only draw is the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Park, a 140-acre site with 12 burial mounds from a major Mississippian trading centre (850–1450 AD). The town itself offers nothing else for a traveller. Most visitors come as a side trip from Poteau or Fort Smith and leave after a couple of hours.
