The Southern Tier is the stretch of New York between the Catskills and Lake Erie, along the Pennsylvania line: river valleys, dairy farms, small cities, and two museums worth a detour (glass in Corning, comedy in Jamestown). It is a driving region. Two or three nights based in Binghamton or Corning covers the core; add Jamestown only if you are heading to or from Erie or Buffalo.
