Southern Barbados
Base here 4–7 nights if you want beach, buses and nightlife in one strip: BGI airport is 10–25 min away and a bus ride costs B$3.50.
Southern Barbados is the island's main tourist strip: the Christ Church coast along Highway 7, running through Hastings, Worthing, Rockley, St Lawrence Gap, Oistins and on to Silver Sands. It is the closest base to Grantley Adams airport, has the densest run of hotels, bars and restaurants, and mixes calm southwest swimming with surf further east. Bridgetown is 15–30 min by bus or car.

Get around
Highway 7 is the spine and all public transport runs along it. Flat bus fare B$3.50 (2026 estimate); minibuses Bridgetown–Oistins run constantly and stop anywhere, services to the airport and Speightstown about every 10 min. Taxis start around B$2/km and are the better choice at night or off the main road. Driving is on the left.

- Swim in front of lifeguards; the sea gets stronger east of Oistins and at Silver Sands.
- St Lawrence Gap bars are loud until late: pick a hotel away from the strip if you sleep early.
- Hurricane season runs Jun–Nov; check forecasts and insurance before booking.
The south coast is a busy tourist strip and generally safe in daylight; use taxis at night, keep valuables out of sight on the beach, and treat unlit side roads with normal city caution.
