The southeast is Botswana's settled, working half: the capital Gaborone and the old hill towns of Kanye and Mochudi. It is not safari country in the Okavango sense. Come here for an easy first or last night, for Tswana history and village life, and for a break from camp routine. Two nights is usually enough; one night is enough if you are only passing through GBE.

- Gaborone and the southeast
- Rain falls mainly in the summer months (Dec–Mar), often as afternoon storms; winter (May–Sep) is dry with cold nights — exact temperatures check. Oct–Nov is hot and dry before the rains.
The southeast is a year-round city region — unlike the Delta, it has no flood season to plan around. If you are combining it with safari, put the southeast at the start or end and keep Jun–Oct for the parks.
