Soraba is a half-day stop for the Gudavi Bird Sanctuary and Chandragutti temple, not a base. One night if you birdwatch at dawn.
Soraba is a small agricultural town in Central Karnataka, 102 km from Shimoga. Its main draw is the Gudavi Bird Sanctuary, a seasonal lake that hosts migratory birds, and the hilltop Chandragutti temple. Most travellers pass through on the way to Banavasi or Sagara.
