Sneek is a small Frisian water town of about 34,000 people, the centre of the Frisian Lakes and a stop on the Elfstedentocht route. The historic core is compact — canals, the Waterpoort gate and the 1550 town hall — and the real activity is on the water: renting a sloop or canoe, or watching Sneekweek in August.
