Jackson Hole Mountain Resort: visitor guide

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort sits in Teton Village, about 20 km northwest of the town of Jackson in western Wyoming, on the edge of Grand Teton National Park. The resort runs two seasons: a winter ski season and a summer season built around the aerial tram, hiking and sightseeing.

Prices, opening dates and lift hours change year to year. Treat every figure below as a planning estimate and confirm on the resort's own site before you book.

Most visitors fly into Jackson Hole Airport (JAC), the only commercial airport inside a US national park boundary, roughly 30–40 minutes from Teton Village by road. Winter flights can be delayed by weather, so build a buffer day at the start of a ski trip rather than arriving the night before your first lift day.

From the airport and from Jackson town, shuttle vans, taxis and ride-hailing cover the run to Teton Village; rental cars are useful if you plan to combine the resort with Grand Teton or Yellowstone, but parking at the village fills on peak weekends. Long-distance drivers usually come via Salt Lake City or Denver, both of which are a full day's drive away.

Winter: the season runs from roughly late November to early April, with the most reliable snow coverage from mid-December through March. Late January to mid-March is the sweet spot: deep snowpack, full terrain open, and fewer people than the holiday weeks. Christmas, New Year and Presidents' Day week are the busiest and most expensive dates of the year.

Summer: from late June to early October the lifts and aerial tram carry hikers and sightseers rather than skiers. July and August are the warmest and busiest; September brings cooler days, thinner crowds and the start of autumn colour. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the mountains through midsummer, so plan big hikes for the morning.

Spring and late autumn are quiet shoulder periods when some lifts and services close. Check the resort's operating calendar before booking flights in those windows.

The town of Jackson, about 20 km southeast, has the larger choice of hotels, restaurants and bars, plus a shuttle link to the village. Teton Village itself is compact and ski-in friendly, with lodging, rentals and dining clustered at the base.

Grand Teton National Park is next door and Yellowstone is a longer day's drive north; both are reasons to add a car and a few extra nights to a summer trip. Other major US ski areas are a flight or a long drive away rather than a short hop.

Buy lift tickets and tram rides online in advance; walk-up window rates are usually the highest. Multi-day passes lower the per-day cost, and some passes cover partner resorts, so check what your existing pass includes before buying.

Altitude is the most common mistake. The valley floor is already around 2,000 m, so take the first day easy, drink water, and limit alcohol. Layer clothing: mountain weather swings from sun to snow within hours, and the summit is far colder and windier than the base.

Ski and snowboard rentals, lessons and childcare should be reserved before arrival in peak weeks. In summer, start hikes early to avoid afternoon storms, carry rain gear, and check whether any areas are closed for wildlife or bear activity.
