Sint-Truiden sits in Haspengouw, Belgium's fruit belt, between Hasselt and Tongeren in Limburg. The centre is small: a market square with the Church of Our Lady, a belfry and town hall, and a 13th-century beguinage, all walkable in half a day. The reason to stay longer is the countryside — orchards that bloom in late April, flat signposted bike networks, and two working breweries. Get around
The centre is compact and flat: everything from the station to the beguinage is under 15 minutes on foot. For the orchards and breweries, rent a bike at Fietspunt next to the station (reserve by phone; closed weekends) or drive. De Lijn buses cover Hasselt, Landen and Tienen but are slow for sightseeing.
