Sindelfingen
Stay 1 night only if you are here for the Mercedes plant, a trade fair or a cheap bed near Stuttgart: the old town is 2 hours, not a weekend.
Sindelfingen is a working city of about 65,000 next to Böblingen, 30 minutes by S-Bahn from Stuttgart. Almost everyone is here for the Mercedes-Benz plant, the Messe or an airport-adjacent bed. The timber-framed old town, the Martinskirche and the Sommerhofenpark fill a half day; the rest of the region is day-trip country.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Firm handshake with eye contact; 'Guten Tag' or 'Hallo'; avoid: Hugs with people you have just met
- Names: Herr / Frau plus surname until invited to use first names; avoid: Using 'du' with officials or older strangers
- Punctuality: Arrive on time for tours, dinners and appointments; avoid: Being more than 5–10 minutes late without a message
- Queues and rules: Follow signs, wait at red lights, sort rubbish; avoid: Walking in cycle lanes
- Conversation: Direct and factual; people say what they mean; avoid: Taking directness as rudeness, or joking about the Nazi era
- Home visit: Bring flowers (odd number, not red roses) or wine; shoes off if the hosts do; avoid: Arriving early
- Paying: Say the total including tip as you pay; avoid: Leaving coins on the table and walking off
Scams and watch-outs
- A81 between the two cities is being rebuilt through at least 2026: expect closures, noise and slow buses.
- Old-town lanes are access-only with residential parking; park in the Marktplatz garage or at the free lots near Badezentrum.
- Many hotels and the plant area have no evening food; eat in the old town or Böblingen before 21:00.
- Sunday buses to industrial and shopping areas do not run.
A safe, low-crime working city; the real risks are A81 construction traffic, cobblestones after rain and unlit forest paths at dusk.
