Sherbrooke
Give Sherbrooke one night as a base for the Eastern Townships, or skip it if you only want Montréal and Québec City.
Sherbrooke is the working centre of the Eastern Townships: 160,000 people, a large French-speaking student population and a compact downtown where two rivers meet. It is not a sight-heavy city. Its value is as a cheap, well-connected base for the region's lakes, ski hills and villages, with a small museum quarter and a lakefront park you can walk in an afternoon. Most travellers pass through on the Autoroute 10 corridor between Montréal and Magog; one night is enough unless you are skiing or cycling.

Get around
The STS city bus network covers downtown, the university and Lennoxville; buy a single trip or a day pass from an authorised dealer before boarding. Taxis and Uber work for short hops. Downtown is walkable, but the city is spread out and the highway strips are not. A car makes the region far easier.
