Sharon is a residential town of about 17,600 people 27 km southwest of downtown Boston, on the MBTA Providence/Stoughton commuter line. There is no hotel cluster and no nightlife strip. What it does have is Borderland State Park, a 1,800-acre estate with the Ames Mansion and over 30 km of trails, plus a compact centre with a Revolutionary War story and a handful of good small restaurants. Treat it as a half-day or a lunch stop between Boston and Providence, not a place to book three nights.

Get around

A car is the practical choice: Borderland's lot is 3 km from the centre and the hotels sit on Route 1. The MBTA Providence/Stoughton line stops at Sharon (1 Upland Road), roughly 30 min from Boston South Station and 38 min from Providence. Amtrak Acela and Northeast Regional do not stop in Sharon; use Route 128 station in Westwood and backtrack by commuter rail or taxi. Local buses are limited — check the MBTA site for current schedules.

The only two in-town hotels sit here, near the I-95 interchange. Car needed for everything.
Sharon centre (Post Office Square)
Walkable to the library, churches and restaurants, but almost no lodging; a few rooms may appear on short-term rental sites.
Foxborough / Gillette Stadium area
10–15 min by car, far more rooms. Prices spike on Patriots home games and concert nights.
Boston or Providence
Both reachable by commuter rail in 25–40 min; better if you want a city base and a Sharon day trip.

Very low street crime; the real risks are deer and fast traffic on Route 1 and I-95, icy trails in winter, and ticks in tall grass from spring to autumn.
