Shaker Heights
Skip as a base: no hotels. Come for half a day on the RTA Blue or Green line from Cleveland, or sleep in Beachwood and drive in.
Shaker Heights is a planned 1912 garden suburb east of Cleveland, with curving tree-lined streets, the Shaker Lakes trails and a small historical museum. There is no hotel in town, so most visitors ride the RTA Rapid in for an afternoon or stay in neighbouring Beachwood. Two nights is plenty if you use it as a quiet Cleveland base by day.
