Sewickley
Skip as a base: no hotels in the village. Come for a half-day of shops and food, or sleep across the river in Moon Township and drive in.
Sewickley is a small borough on the Ohio River, about 20 minutes by car from downtown Pittsburgh and roughly 15 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport. The village itself is a compact business district of shops, galleries, spas and restaurants that you can walk end to end in an afternoon. The larger estates and the equestrian country sit up in Sewickley Heights, which needs a car. There is nowhere to sleep in the village, so most visitors either day-trip from Pittsburgh or stay in the chain hotels across the river in Moon Township.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry

- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- No hotel in the village: book in Moon Township or Pittsburgh.
- Sewickley Heights lanes are narrow, hilly and have no pavements in places: drive, do not walk them.
- Winter ice on pavements and steps; summer humidity in July–August.
- Metered parking is enforced on weekdays: read the sign at the space.
A low-crime, well-off borough; the real risks are icy pavements in winter, narrow unlit lanes in Sewickley Heights, and driving Route 65 at rush hour.
