Seward
Give Seward 2 nights: one full day for a Kenai Fjords boat tour, one for Exit Glacier. Skip it as a day trip from Anchorage — the 2.5 h drive each way kills the day.
Seward is a small ice-free port at the head of Resurrection Bay, 127 road miles south of Anchorage, and the road gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. Almost everything worth doing is either on the water or up the Exit Glacier road. Two nights covers both; one night only works if you pick one.

Get around
The town core is walkable — harbor to downtown is about 15 minutes. A free summer shuttle loops the cruise dock, SeaLife Center and downtown roughly every 15–30 min (tips appreciated). Exit Glacier is 8.6 miles out Exit Glacier Road with no public bus: use a tour shuttle, taxi or your own car.

Scams and watch-outs
- Book Kenai Fjords cruises and Exit Glacier shuttles before you arrive in July–August; popular departures sell out.
- Rain is normal even in summer — bring a waterproof shell, not an umbrella.
- Cell coverage is patchy on the bay and up Exit Glacier Road.
- Never approach a glacier face or the bay shoreline below it; ice calves without warning.
- The Seward Highway has a crash-prone stretch between Girdwood and Turnagain Pass — allow 2.5–3 h and don't rush it.
Seward is a small, low-crime town; the real risks are cold water, glacier terrain and wildlife. Stay off the bay shoreline below a glacier face, keep food out of tents, and carry a shell.
