Day trip from Seville to Cordoba: how to get there and what to do

Cordoba sits about 140 km northeast of Seville, and the high-speed line puts it under an hour away. That makes it one of the easiest day trips in Andalusia: leave Seville after breakfast, see the Mosque–Cathedral and the old town, and be back for dinner.

The catch is what you miss. Cordoba's patios open in May, the Alcázar and the museums need time, and the city is at its best in the early morning and late evening when the day-trippers have gone. If your trip is short and the Mosque–Cathedral is the priority, a day trip is the right call. If you have two nights to spare, stay one.

Three options: high-speed train (AVE), bus, or car. The train is the default for most travellers — fast, central to central, and bookable online. Buses are cheaper but roughly twice as long. Driving gives you flexibility but adds parking and tolls in Cordoba.

Seville's Santa Justa station and Cordoba's central station are both walkable or a short taxi ride from the old towns. Book AVE seats early: prices rise as departure approaches, and popular morning trains sell out in spring and autumn.

A workable day: arrive by mid-morning, go straight to the Mosque–Cathedral with a timed ticket, then walk the Judería (Jewish Quarter) and the Roman bridge. Lunch in the old town, an afternoon for the Alcázar or a museum, and a late-afternoon train back to Seville.

If you only have half a day, cut the museums and keep the Mosque–Cathedral, the Judería and the bridge. That is the core of Cordoba in about four hours.

A day trip by train for one person typically lands around €60–110 (about $65–120) including return fare, Mosque–Cathedral entry and lunch. Bus travel cuts the transport cost but adds time. Tours cost more but remove the planning.

Stay if you are visiting in May for the patios, if you want the museums and the Alcázar without rushing, or if you like a city after the day-trippers leave. One night in the Judería or near the Mosque–Cathedral is enough for a slower look.

Go back the same day if Cordoba is a stop on a longer Andalusia route and you already have Seville and Granada booked. The train makes a return trip easy, and you keep your Seville base.

Cordoba's old town is compact and walkable. The station is about 1 km from the Mosque–Cathedral, roughly 15 minutes on foot or a short taxi ride. The Judería, the Alcázar and the Roman bridge are all within the same walkable area.
