Give Setúbal 2 nights as a Lisbon side trip: fish market and grilled fish in the centre, one Arrábida beach or dolphin-boat morning, then move on.
Setúbal is a working fishing and ferry port 48 km south of Lisbon, on the north bank of the Sado estuary, at the foot of the Arrábida hills. The draw is food and water: the Livramento fish market, cheap grilled fish in tascas, the Arrábida beaches 20–30 minutes west, and a resident bottlenose dolphin colony in the bay. The historic centre and Avenida Luísa Todi are flat and walkable; the beaches and the castle need a bus, car or boat. Two nights covers the town plus one Arrábida day; one night is enough if you only want the market and dinner.

Get around
The centre is flat and best on foot. Local buses cover the town and the Arrábida beaches in season. Trains (Fertigús/CP) run to Lisbon and along the Sado line; the Tróia ferry and catamaran cross the estuary. A car or tuk-tuk makes the Arrábida coast much easier.
