Seneca Falls
Give Seneca Falls one full day and one night: the Women's Rights park is free and walkable, and the town is small enough to see on foot.
Seneca Falls is a small Finger Lakes town that holds the Women's Rights National Historical Park, the site of the 1848 convention, plus the National Women's Hall of Fame and an It's a Wonderful Life museum. Almost everything sits within a few blocks of Fall Street. Most visitors come for a half-day to a full day, often as a stop between Ithaca, Geneva and Auburn, and sleep one night if they want the museums without rushing.

Get around
The historic core is compact and flat: park once on or near Fall Street and walk the rest. A car is needed for Montezuma refuge, the wineries and neighbouring towns; there is no useful local bus for visitors.

- Motels and chain food east of the centre; you need a car for everything.
- Cayuga Street and village side streets

Language
English everywhere, with strong regional accents; Spanish is the second language in the Southwest, Texas, Florida, California and New York. Some words differ from British English: restroom (toilet), check (bill), gas (petrol), trunk (boot), first floor (ground floor).
- Measurements are imperial: miles, Fahrenheit, gallons, pounds. 100 km ≈ 62 miles; 30 °C ≈ 86 °F.
- Small talk with strangers is normal and friendly; it is not a sales tactic.
Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Some sites keep short or seasonal hours: the M'Clintock House opens in summer only and the Stanton House tours run Friday–Sunday from mid-May. Check before you drive.
- Winter brings ice on pavements and canal-side paths; the sculpture trail is exposed.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on rural roads around the lake.
- Restaurants close early in a town this size; eat before 8pm or drive to Geneva or Auburn.
A quiet, low-crime small town; the real issues are winter ice, deer on rural roads at dusk and early-closing kitchens.
