Seligman
Stop for 2–4 hours on an I-40 drive, or sleep one night if you want Route 66 kitsch at dusk; there is no second day here.
Seligman is a one-street town on the old Route 66 alignment, about 456 residents, off I-40 between Kingman and Ash Fork. It is the densest cluster of Route 66 signage, gift shops and period motels in Arizona, and it works as a half-day stop or a single night, not a base. Most travellers see it between Williams and Kingman, or on the way to the Grand Canyon.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Summer afternoons reach 35–38 °C with little shade on the strip.
- I-40 winter closures and dust storms can strand you; check Arizona DOT conditions before driving.
- Some shops and the Snow Cap close in winter or keep short, seasonal hours: check before you detour.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on the back roads.
A small, quiet town; the real risks are summer heat, long empty drives on I-40 and winter ice. Lock the car and keep water in it.
