Base here 2 nights for the Zingaro reserve and the tonnara bay; skip it as a day trip from Palermo — the bus link is thin and the coast deserves a slow morning.
Scopello is a small seaside hamlet on Sicily's northwestern coast, built around a 17th-century baglio and a former tuna fishery (tonnara) that stopped working in 1981. The draw is the bay with its sea stacks (faraglioni) and the Zingaro Nature Reserve next door. It is a base for swimming, hiking and eating seafood, not a sightseeing city.

Get around
The hamlet is walkable in 10 minutes. The Zingaro entrance and the tonnara are reached on foot or by car; the SS187 links Scopello to Castellammare del Golfo and Trapani. Buses run from Castellammare, roughly five a day toward Scopello (check the current timetable). A car makes the coast and inland day trips far easier.
