Saundersfoot
Base here 2 nights for a quieter, cheaper beach than Tenby: 3 miles away, walkable on the coast path in about 1 h.
Saundersfoot is a small Pembrokeshire seaside village of about 2,600 people, 3 miles north of Tenby. It has two Blue Flag beaches, a working harbour and a compact centre of pubs and fish-and-chip shops. It works as a low-key base for the south Pembrokeshire coast: Tenby, the coast path and Folly Farm are all within a short drive or bus ride. Most visitors need one or two nights, or a day trip from Tenby.

Get around
The village is small enough to walk: beach to harbour is under 10 minutes. Saundersfoot railway station is about 2 miles from the centre, so a car or bus is more practical for arrivals. Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff
- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- Saundersfoot station is about 2 miles from the village: arrange a lift or taxi, or use the bus.
- Mobile coverage is patchy down in the village; 4G works better on the approach roads and 5G has not reached the area.
- Parking near the beach fills early on summer weekends and bank holidays.
- Many cafés, pubs and attractions run shorter hours or close outside the Easter–October season: check before you travel.
- Swimming is at your own risk; there is no lifeguard cover outside the main summer season.
A low-crime village; the real risks are the sea, the tides and the coast path. Check tide times before walking the shore sections, keep to the path on the cliffs, and note that mobile signal is weak in the village.
