Saugatuck and Douglas are two small resort towns joined at the mouth of the Kalamazoo River on Lake Michigan, about 2.5 h by car from Chicago. Get around
A car is the practical choice: the beach, dunes and wineries sit outside the two walkable downtowns. In summer, downtown Saugatuck and Douglas are small enough to walk, and the chain ferry crosses the Kalamazoo River between them. Parking downtown fills by mid-morning on summer weekends.
