Sarangkot
One night is enough for the sunrise and paragliding; add a second if you want to hike the ridge or just slow down.
Sarangkot is a hill village perched above Pokhara, famous for its dawn view of the Annapurna range and as the launch point for paragliding and the world's longest zipline. Most visitors come for a single sunrise and leave, but the village rewards an extra night with quiet walks, birdwatching and a slower pace.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Namaste with palms together; a handshake between men in business; avoid: Hugging or kissing in public
- Temples and stupas: Walk clockwise, spin prayer wheels clockwise, shoes off at shrines; avoid: Touching offerings; entering Hindu-only areas
- Food: Right hand, accept refills gracefully; avoid: Sharing food you have bitten; stepping over food
- Feet and heads: Keep feet flat and away from people and altars; avoid: Touching anyone's head
- Photos: Ask first; offer to show the picture; avoid: Photographing cremations or rituals without permission
- On the trail: Pass mani walls and chortens on the left (keeping them on your right); give way to yaks on the mountain side; avoid: Standing on the drop side when animals pass
Scams and watch-outs
- Entry fee of about 25 NPR at the viewpoint; keep the ticket for re-entry.
- Paragliding and zipline are weather-dependent; book through a Pokhara operator and confirm conditions the day before.
- The sunrise viewpoint gets crowded in peak season (Oct–Nov); arrive by 5:30 AM.
- Monsoon (Jun–Sep) often hides the mountains; check the forecast before booking.
Sarangkot is safe; the main risks are steep, uneven paths in the dark (bring a torch for the sunrise walk) and altitude (about 1,600 m – mild for most).
