Santana de Parnaíba
A half-day trip from São Paulo for the colonial centre and Passion play; not a base. Go on a weekend morning, leave by late afternoon.
Santana de Parnaíba preserves a compact colonial core with cobbled streets, a 17th-century church and an annual open-air Passion of Christ performance. It sits inside Greater São Paulo but feels disconnected because access is winding and tourist infrastructure is thin. Worth a few hours if you are already in the region, not worth a dedicated journey from central São Paulo.
