Sangli
Half a day is enough for Sangli's fort and river temples; use it as a stop between Pune and Kolhapur, not a base.
Sangli is a commercial town on the Krishna River in South Maharashtra, 4.5 hours from Pune and 1 hour from Kolhapur. Its main draw is the Patwardhan Rajawada palace and fort, plus a string of riverside temples. Most travellers pass through on the way to Kolhapur or Goa.
