Sanford is a small city on the south shore of Lake Monroe, about 32 km northeast of Orlando, at the head of navigation on the St. Johns River. Its draw is a compact historic downtown with a marina and a lakefront walking trail, plus the Central Florida Zoo and the Amtrak Auto Train terminal. Most visitors see it as a half-day stop between Orlando and the beaches, or as a quiet base for the northern side of Greater Orlando.

Get around
Downtown is walkable and a free city trolley links the SunRail station, downtown and the marina. Lynx buses 34, 45, 46E and 46W cover the city and Seminole Centre; SunRail runs to Orlando and Kissimmee on weekdays. A car is the practical choice for the zoo, the malls and the state parks.
