Sandy Springs
Base here only if you want a quiet, car-first suburb: 1 night, or 2 if you are working the Perimeter. For sightseeing, stay in Atlanta and day-trip up.
Sandy Springs is a northern Atlanta suburb of about 94,000 people, wrapped by I-285 and the Chattahoochee River. It is not a sightseeing town: it is a business and residential base with a river greenway, a small history museum and a golf course. MARTA's Red Line ends at North Springs, so you can reach it car-free from the airport, but almost everything worth doing here needs a car or a rideshare.

Buses fill the gaps but run slower at weekends. For the river, the mall and restaurants, a car or rideshare is the practical choice; rush hour peaks 6–10AM and 3–7PM.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Almost nothing here is walkable: budget for a car or rideshares.
- MARTA thins out at night; solo travellers may prefer a taxi or hotel shuttle after dark.
- Weekend MARTA waits can stretch to 30 min for trains and up to an hour for buses.
- Summer heat and humidity are real; carry water on river trails.
A low-crime suburb by US standards; the real risks are driving (I-285 and GA-400 are fast and busy) and heat on river trails. MARTA stations feel quiet after dark, so take a taxi or rideshare late.
